I found this to be extremely helpful 
i'm actually doing a portrait of Marilyn Monroe right now and i'm on the hair. I'm doing my portrait in various shades of graphite pencils so would the shading in the hair still be in the shades you described or since charcoal is significantly darker than the medium I am using, would the shades be lighter? I am sure I can figure it out eventually but I don't want to hurt my portrait. Thank you
